Yokohama

City of the Future

Architect : Zaha Hadid Architects | Developer : Melco Resorts and Entertainment | Location: Yokohama, Tokyo

The Project

Melco Resorts invited Zaha Hadid Architects to design and develop a luxury intergrated resort for Yokohama, Japans major port near Tokyo. The resort would be one of three to be built across Japan over the next decade.

They asked Minmud to join the ongoing project as visualisation partner to create images and films showcasing the developemnt of the project.

Film and Photography

During the project, Minmud visited Yokohama several times to capture extensive footage and photographs of the area for backplates and B-roll material. This included aerial filming and photography from a helicopter, both during the day and at night. Minmud also captured seveeral timelapse shots.

This material was utilized in multiple project submissions to create compelling images and films.

The Images

Minmud created numerous images throughout the project's duration, capturing the scheme's evolution into its final design. For the final submission, day and night pairs from specific viewpoints around the city were required. Minmud achieved these views by matte painting photographs together, accurately recreating the specified perspectives.

The Film

Minmud proposed a film that seamlessly combined live-action footage with 3D rendering to create a realistic look. Detailed 3D renderings of the proposed development were composited onto photographs and film backplates. This technique provided a convincing vision of the proposed scheme, blending real-world elements with the unrealised project for a clear and compelling preview.
